Out to Lunch
My Macintosh is dying over here. Three hours of design work, including a complete redo of this useless blog, all lost. Screen going red. I’m out of here for a while.
My first priority, still,is to get steady cash flow going my way, earned by me for a change. That’s #1.
When I’ve saved a few bucks (around $1700) I’ll pick up a reconditioned MacBook Pro (so I can use my already-invested $50-75k of software). The requirements for the replacement are: A “modern” (i.e., Intel) CPU, Firewire 800 and a Radeon VRAM card (256 MB ram). I’ve seen them, with the 17″ screens, for $1650-1700.
BUT … I found one for $1199 here, but don’t really know the company.
Apple left Firewire 800 off one of the Pro models and the actual “pros” had a shit fit. And it’s no wonder, whoever made that decision at Apple is (or, hopefully, “was”) an idiot, without any doubt whatsoever.
The Apple switched out the radeon graphics cards (the X1600) for the Nvidia, and ticked off more professionals. The pros will go along with the Nvidia, because they don’t have a lot of choice at Apple. I’d rather sacrifice a couple of points on the CPU speed and get the Radeon graphics.
Whatever, it’s a long ways off.
